About the Scheme

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (GGV) conceptualised the Shiksha Mitra Sanskar Yojana (GGV-SMS) in January 2025 to support rural and economically weaker children. The idea started when university students saw children studying under a neem tree with discarded notebooks.

The scheme was officially inaugurated on 23 September 2025 with 23 volunteer students and 35 beneficiary children.

Shiksha Mitra: A mission that builds the nation’s future by lighting the lamp of knowledge

Purpose

The scheme provides free, quality education from nursery to class 12 in Bilaspur and nearby areas. University students act as volunteer teachers and conduct morning and evening classes. The aim is to increase educational access and remove financial barriers.

Objectives

• Provide free education to rural and weaker children.

Volunteer Eligibility & Credit

Undergraduate and postgraduate students can volunteer.

Credit: 1 credit after completing 40 hours of teaching.

• Develop teaching and leadership skills in volunteers.
• Strengthen rural communities.
• Encourage community participation.
