GGV Bharat Scout and Guides: Rover and Ranger Scheme for Holistic Leadership

Fostering Leadership, Patriotism, and Civic Responsibility

Introduction

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (GGV), Bilaspur, reinforces holistic education through its Bharat Scout and Guides, Rover and Ranger Scheme. Registered under SHQ/GGU/08/24 and operational from 30 September 2024, the program fosters leadership, patriotism, and social responsibility. It evolved from a student-led campus cleanup campaign into a sustained initiative for values-based engagement.

Objectives
  • Foster leadership, patriotism, and responsibility in university youth.
  • Promote community service and national integration.
  • Encourage personal development through outdoor and skill-based training.
  • Nurture unity, discipline, and ethical conduct.
  • Engage students in meaningful social, civic, and environmental action.
Services Offered
  • Formation of registered Scout and Guide units on campus.
  • Leadership training camps and certificate workshops.
  • Participation in national/state-level rallies, jamborees, and competitions.
  • Health camps, sanitation drives, and social awareness initiatives.
  • Cultural integration and civic service programs.
Volunteer Engagement

Students join as Rovers (male) and Rangers (female) under unit leaders, attend weekly/monthly training in soft skills, drills, and responsibilities, and participate in student-led events with peer-assessment for skill enhancement.

Activities and Outreach
  • Campus-wide clean-up drives, tree plantations, and health campaigns.
  • Participation in National Unity Day, Constitution Day, and Environment Day.
  • Inter-college competitions and scouting festivals.
  • Support for social campaigns like Nasha Mukti Abhiyan.
  • Collaboration with Red Cross and local NGOs for first-aid awareness.
